International Submariners Congress 2022 Karlskrona Sweden
This
Congress
was
delayed
for
two
years
due
to
the
Covid
Pandemic
which
affected
a
lot
of
member
countries
who
couldn’t
attend
but
it
was
very
nice
to
greet
a
first
time
attending
member
from
Ecuador.
Sweden
made
us
very
welcome
at
the
Scandic
Hotel
where
people
were
staying
and
registration
was
held.
We
all
received
souvenirs
and
plans
for
the
four
day
event,
great
atmosphere
and
a
time
to
meet
old
friends.
In
the
City
Hall
an
introduction
by
local
government
and
then
lecture
given
by
SAAB
about
its
history
and
future
defence
of
the
country
and
world
also
the
Orchestra
performed.
Later
a
reception
to
meet
up
with
each
other
for
champagne
and
canapes.
Karlskrona
being
a
small
island
with
a
base
for
the
Swedish
Navy
had
a
very
large
Naval
Museum
with
exhibits
going
back
centuries
up
to
modern
times.
Buffet
lunch
was
provided
after
walking
around
the
museum
and
then
a
bus
tour
was
organised
to
introduce
us
to
the
island.
The
next
day
we
visited
the
Church
to
pay
our
respects
to
absent
friends
and
listen
to
a
performance
given
by
The
Royal
Swedish
Naval
Orchestra,
we
were
all
very
impressed
by
the
drum
and
bugle
solo’s.
Buffet
lunch
was
organised
in
the
Naval
Officers
Club
which
itself
had
a
long
history.
The
plan
continued
with
a
boat
and
buffet
trip
with
commentary
to
introduce
Naval
Heritage
sites
and
we
visited
Drottningskar
Castle
built
in
the
late
16th
century.
Final
day
which
seemed
to
go
around
quick
as everyone was enjoying themselves.
Gala night was held for the swapping of memory presents and then passing over the ISA Column to Greece for the next
meeting in Heraklion Crete May 2023. Can’t wait for the next meeting and might be nice if some new members joined us.
